Upcoming in January at Blaine UMC:

1. 111th Anniversary Sunday Worship Potluck honoring 88+ Year Birthdays and the Tuesday Ladies Group
Please join us on Sunday, January 25th as we celebrate our 111th Anniversary and honor those who are celebrating 88+ years of living, as well as those who have served Blaine Memorial as a part of the Tuesday Ladies Group.

Following joint worship at 10am, we will gather in the Lee Activity Center and have one of our infamous Blaine Potluck lunches.  Please bring your special dish to share, and join us!

If your last name begins with…please bring
A – M…Main Dish and Salad
N – Q…Main Dish and Dessert
R – Z…Main Dish and Rice Dish

And if you know someone who is turning 88 years by January 25th, please let the office know.

2. United in Blue Food Drive
Similar to last year, Blaine Memorial UMC will be participating in the United in Blue Food Drive Challenge against the New England UMC Conference Churches.

Seattle/Pacific Northwest United Methodist Churches have challenged the New England United Methodist Church Conference to a food drive in anticipation of the upcoming Super Bowl XLIX.   Blaine Memorial is participating as well as many other churches in the area. For more information, click UNITED IN BLUE.

Food items can be brought to Blaine Memorial Social Hall from Tues-Friday 9-5pm and Sunday at 10:00am. All items must be collected by Sunday, Feb.1.  We are collecting for the Asian Counseling Referral Services Food Bank. On Sunday, Feb 1, wear your Seahawks Blue and Green and pose for a picture with all the food items we collect!

3. Emergency Contact Forms
Reminder to all members of Blaine UMC:
If you have not turned in your Emergency Contact Information form, please fill it out and bring it to church on Sunday, January 25 (Anniversary Sunday). If you did not pick up a blank form, these will also be available Sunday or you can obtain them in the church office. The Emergency forms are going to be kept private and on file at church and will only be used in the event of a medical emergency. We need one form filled out per person. Thank you for your assistance in caring for our congregation!

The Seasons of Advent and Christmas

Please join us for worship in Season of Advent, and for our Christmas Worship Celebrations, as we prepare for and welcome the presence of Jesus our Christ, into our lives and this world.

Sunday, December 14
10 am • Church School Christmas
We will be lead in worship by our children and youth, as we hear the story of the birth of Jesus from the viewpoint of each of the gospel writers.

Sunday, December 21
10 am • Christmas Sunday – The Word in Music
We will sing and praise together with music of the season, lead by our Ukulele Group, Choir, Bell Choir, Wind Ensemble and Summit Band.
5 pm • Blue Christmas Longest Night Service – Kono Chapel
Come and light a candle as we wait for Christ’s coming, as we acknowledge that this season of joy can also be a season of sorrow and sighing for many.

Wednesday, December 24
4 pm • Family Christmas Worship Service
Young children and families, and the young at heart, are invited to join in this service designed especially for them.
7 pm • Candlelight Worship Service
Light a candle to celebrate Jesus, the Light of the World.

1. Greening of Blaine Memorial

Saturday, Nov. 29 – 9 am
Sunday, Nov. 30 – after worship

All are invited to join the Worship Committee in preparation for The Greening of Blaine to make wreaths, garlands and swags for the Christmas Season. We will gather from 9 am on November 29 in the Social Hall. And then you are invited to join us after worship on Sunday, November 30 as we gather together with our community to put the finishing touches on our Church, as we make our home festive for the holidays! Come and join us – we hope to see many of you there!! Thank you!!

1. Help B.Y.G. provide Thanksgiving Meals for needy families

B.Y.G. – Blaine Youth Group, with the help of Church School and their families, we will be preparing over 10 complete Thanksgiving meals for families from Kimball Elementary for the annual Thanksgiving Meal Service Project. Starting today, Nov. 2 to Sunday, Nov. 23, there will be an opportunity for all of Blaine’s friends and families to get involved! We will be posting a wish list of food items needed for purchase to complete our meals every Sunday after services. Please stop by and consider how you can help support by donating items from the list. 2. November Monthly Collection for Asian Counseling and Referral Services
Offering a Multicultural and Multilingual Approach to Social and Behavioral Services
Since 1973

Our November Collection will be for the Asian Counseling and Referral Services, one of the most used food banks in King County.

Here are the items that we will be seeking for November…
Food Bank Wish List
Rice (all Asian varieties) • Fish (canned or dried)
Tofu (vacuum packed, non-perishable)
Soy and Oyster sauces • Dried vegetables • Asian noodles
Cooking oil • Canned fruit

Please leave your donation in the collection trunks in Lee Activity Center or Sanctuary Narthex by November 24. Thank you for your continued support.

1. Medicare Update and Prescription Plan for 2015

Deadline for Medicare sign up – December 7

Cho Shimizu is available to meet with Blaine Members and friends concerning Medicare changes in preventive services, durable medical equipment and drug prescriptions. Call the church office (206-723-1536) to make an appointment.
