Youth and Adults are welcome to participate in Missions at a variety of levels. We try to distribute our efforts to address needs at the Local, National, and Global scope.
UPCOMING PROJECTS
HONDURAS – GLOBAL
A team from Blaine Memorial UMC will be heading to Honduras on Sept. 10-17, 2011 for a short-term dental/construction mission. The team will be working with Honduras Outreach Inc. (HOI), a non-denominational Christian organization. General information can be found in the HOI website www.hoi.org. For specific trip details, mention “Honduras” when you contact the church office.
APPALACHIA – NATIONAL
A team is being formed to work in the Appalachian mountains during the Spring of 2012. More information regarding opportunities to join this team are also available from the church office.
RECENT PROJECTS
CAMP MEKOKIKO, HAWAII – NATIONAL
A team of 9 Blaine members and friends went to Camp Mekokiko in Hawaii, April 19-23, 2010, to help Rev. Ted Lesnett build a 36 acre Retreat and conference center for church groups and families to have a place to worship and meditate in the great outdoors of Hawaii.
Tasks included building foundations for cottages, tiling restrooms at campsites and laying water lines for cottages and restrooms.
JAMAICA – GLOBAL
A group of 28 Blaine members and friends went to Jamacia May 22-28, 2010. In partnering with Praying Pelicans Missions, the group did Dental and Construction work and held a VBS for the local Jamaican people.
YAKIMA NATION – NATIONAL (Youth)
In July 2010, the Blaine Memorial UMC Youth Group took 9 youth and 1 leader to the Yakama Reservation (Toppenish and Wapato, WA) for a week long mission trip. We spent a couple days painting houses and a couple days running Kid’s Club (like VBS), while learning about the Yakama Nation’s history and culture, all the while relating our experiences to our personal faith walks.
WEBB PROJECT – LOCAL
Inspired by an idea from Nina Chinn, a team of 13 Blaine members got together to replace an old wooden stairway with a new concrete stairway at Lois Webb’s house. Also, at the same time, they moved the cross from the parking lot to the south wall of the Lee Center.
