The times are noon and 6:00 p.m. and will be held in the Sanctuary. All are welcome to partake in receiving ashes on your forehead. The practice of receiving ashes reminds us of our mortality and the need to repent. Also Ash Wednesday is the start of our forty day lenten journey as we walk with Christ experiencing his life, death and resurrection which we celebrate at Easter. If you are interested in a Lenten study, we encourage you to pick up 40 Day Journey with Madeleine L’Engle, which allows us to grow deeper in our faith so that God’s word may fall on fertile soil. Lent is also a time when the community comes together and learns how to receive and live out God’s grace in the world. Our office has copies for purchase. As we kick off this new year, we are going to be worshiping together in the month of January by having one service at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Children’s Church school will also start at 10:00 a.m. The children will start out in the Sanctuary and then be dismissed to their classrooms after the children’s sermon. These are also family friendly and candle light services. At 4:00 p.m. is our Japanese Language Service (Nichigo). All are welcome to attend.There will be no Sunday School and children are encouraged to worship with their family.

This is the joy that we experience in knowing that Christ is almost here. We will be hearing the word of God through the music of Christmas. Come celebrate with us as we hear the Word proclaimed through our children choir, adult choir, Summit worship band, ukulele group, hand bell choir and brass ensemble. Here are the Scripture readings that prepare us for this Sunday: Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11;Psalm 126;1 Thessalonians 5:16-24; The Gospel of John 1:6-8;19-28. After service, we will also have a potluck lunch as we celebrate the joy of Christmas together. During our lunch we will sing Christmas carols and there might even be an appearance from Santa!
