For ADULTs

Blaine’s annual VBS will be July 13th-17th and we are expecting 90 youth to participate. We need your help in helping run a successful program. This is one of Blaine’s biggest functions and outreach in the community. Last year it took over 60 volunteers and 1,500 hours to prepare staff and run the camp.

We need help with registration, cooking, supervising the kids, participating in the program, construction of projects, leading craft time or various administrative tasks. In order to have VBS this year we need to have the following stations staffed:

Morning Worship

5 teachers for Drama, Snack, Craft, Games and Video

Afternoon Worship

Cooking

Afternoon Craft

Afternoon Work project

Afternoon play supervision

Classes are 20 minutes each and the curriculum is already prepared. Teaching is very similar to the current Ark program we are using for church school. We are looking for help at any time during the week or for a couple of hours. If we don’t receive enough volunteers we will be forced to call off VBS.

If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact Rev. Kathleen, Steven Kanzaki or Mako Kanzaki (skanzaki@aol.com) 425.776.7701. If you are interested, please fill out the Volunteer Registration Form.

If you like to garden or just like to play in the dirt, here is a project for you! We are planning to construct some raised beds to grow vegetables for the Rainier Valley Food Bank. We are looking for folks to construct the beds, plant the seeds, and tend the garden.

Let us know if you are interested in being a part of this Gardening Team!

If you like to grow your own vegetables at home or have fruit trees, consider providing the “overabundant” apples, zucchinis and/or tomatoes (for example) to the Rainier Valley Food Bank in the late summer or early fall.

If you have any questions, please contact Rev. Kathleen or Pam Yorozu.

Blaine donated over $7000 to two local food banks. Beacon Avenue Food Bank and El Centro de la Raza Food Bank each received checks of over $3800 to support their continued work to serve the underprivileged in the Beacon Hill area. As a policy, Blaine has chosen to donate 1/2 the net proceeds from our Sukiyaki Dinner and Benefit Bazaar to service agencies both locally and abroad. Our next even will be the Benefit Bazaar on October 3, 2009.
