Blaine Announcements – Mar 22

MARCH Collection – Rainier Valley Food Bank

Food items most needed by the Rainier Valley Food Bank include high protein, healthy foods, such as: canned chicken, tuna and salmon, hearty meat soups and stews, dry and canned beans, peanut butter, pasta and rice, oatmeal, dried fruits, Ensure and other nutritional supplement drinks, and baby food and formula.  Monetary donations or gift cards are also appreciated since this allows the food bank to buy bulk items more economically.  Place your donation in the bin at the entrance to the LAC gym or in the Narthex.  Let’s share a vision of the world (and our own communities) without hunger!

MISSION TRIP 2009 MEETING – TODAY

If you are interested in going on an international or national mission trip, please join us today, 12:30 pm, in the Kono Chapel to share in the discussion.  Lunch to be provided.  Questions: see Teresa Yagi or Bob Sekijima.

PRAYER ROOM AVAILABLE

During Lent, please visit one of three prayer rooms available for prayer: Kono Chapel, the Archives (Room 204 in the Ed Wing), or the Library. Prayer triads might want to use these spaces for group prayer.  There is also space in the top floor stairwell of the Lee Center that is a good space for solo prayer.  We hope you might find these places to be an oasis during the Lenten season.

NEW TESTAMENT BIBLE STUDY

The New Testament Bible Study began March 1 for those attending on Sundays and began on March 9 for those attending on Mondays.  Study books are still available in the office for $5.00.  There is always room for anyone wanting to attend either class.  Just show up even if you missed the beginning classes or see Rev. Kathleen if you have any questions.

30 HOUR FAMINE – MARCH 27th-29th

Over the weekend of March 27-29, the Blaine Youth Group will be doing a 30 hour fast to raise money for Seattle-based World Vision and awareness about the fight against global and domestic hunger. Our youth will be fasting for 30 hours to raise awareness that just $30 a month will feed and care for an impoverished child for an entire year. Each youth’s goal is to raise at least $180, or enough to feed and care for an impoverished child for 6 months. On Saturday, they will also be volunteering with the Rainier Valley Food Bank to help them collect money and food items. Please support the youth and their leaders by supporting their fund-raising goals and praying for their health and enthusiasm as they experience (some for the very first time) what it is like to be REALLY hungry.

ALL CHURCH WORK PARTY – MARCH 29th

Please come join the combined worship on March 29 with service in mind.  After the 10:00 am joint worship service in the Sanctuary, we will clean as much as possible of the church; inside and out, yards and parking.  There will be tasks for all ages and gender.  We pray for an abundance of people power.  Dress accordingly and bring tools for cleaning, repairing and yard work.  Lunch will be provided.

NIKKEI CONFERENCE – APRIL 17th-19th

Mission to Ontario.  The Apostle Paul is best known for his letters and his journeys throughout the Mediterranean region.  He went to spread “the good news” and to visit the young Christian churches (to encourage and to advise).  We are the Apostle Paul among Northwest Nikkei United Methodist Churches.  I invite you to make this missionary journey to Ontario.  Registration has begun; for more information see Kenji Onishi.
