THE BIBLE FROM SCRATCH: OLD TESTAMENT-JANUARY 11

Do you want some Bible 101?  Do you think that everyone else knows more about the Bible than you do?  Do you just need a refresher on the overview of the Hebrew Scripture?  If so, then join us for a 7 week Bible study in the new year.  Two class times are available – Sunday after church (childcare and lunch provided) and Monday, 10:00 am at church.  Classes start this week.  Study books are available in the church office.

If you have questions or want to sign up, please contact Rev. Kathleen

MISSION MADNESS – JANUARY 19

Monday, January 19, (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day) will be a day for Mission Madness.  We will be helping at Mary’s Place, Compass House, Rainier Valley Food Bank, Earth Corps, UMCOR Health Kits and a possible Singing/Visitation event.  Each location will have a variety of activities.  The health kits will be put together at Blaine for those who cannot go to the other sites.  Please sign up on the Mission Madness board in the Social Hall.  This will be one day that everyone can be involved in our mission work at Blaine.

ALL CHURCH CHARGE CONFERENCE – JANUARY 22

We have been advised that our annual Charge Conference will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2009, at 6:30 pm (with the January Ad Board meeting to follow).  Everyone is invited to attend the Charge Conference.  Finance, SPRC and Trustees need to complete the Conference forms which have been given to you.  All other Committee Chairs will also need to submit a report to the office by early January.  Watch for further information.

2009 OFFERING ENVELOPES AND ONLINE GIVING

Offering envelopes for 2009 are now available for those with envelope numbers between 1-125.  Please pick up your envelopes before or after service or at the church office.  If you have an envelope number greater than 125, you will use your existing book of envelopes for 2009.  If you have not received envelopes and would like one, please let the church office know.  Using the envelopes greatly helps the posters who log the information in the computer for your annual statement.  Thank you for your offerings!

NOTE: NOW IS THE TIME TO DO YOUR OFFERING ONLINE.  The new year is just beginning and all the information you need to sign up is on our website:  blaineonline.org.  Just click ONLINE GIVING under the announcements for all the details.  It’s quick, easy and you no longer have to bother with envelopes.

LIBRARY IS OPEN

The restoration of our library is completed!  Same location next to Kono Chapel.  Would you believe we have about 700 items in our collection? All are cataloged and ready for checkout. You will find children’s books, inspirational books, Bible study, Asian American topics, and small group materials among the categories.  Your generous donations of books from the Book Fair have been placed on the shelf marked New Books.  You are welcome at any time to browse and check out books, videos & DVDs.

On Anniversary Sunday, January 25, you will have a chance to purchase more books for the Library – watch for this opportunity!!
